Hairology

Good Hair is a documentary about Black women in America and how they go to the extreme to make their naturally 'fierce' hair more relaxed; either with the help of a relaxer or simply by making use of other people's hair.

Most of the beautiful black women out there do not sport their own hair. e.g: Oprah Winfrey, Beyonce, Raven (!) , The First Lady, just to name a few.

What I found really interesting is that most of the hair that are on their heads come all the way from India and in some cases Malaysia! yeah, our hair is THAT good-looking for it to be coveted so much!

There is an art to weaving other people's hair onto your own as well. As this process usually takes more than 5 hours to complete, it makes sense that the cost is through the roof as well! One head of hair can sell up to a thousand bucks!
and the process alone costs the same amount of money. One can't help but wonder that the hair pimp is making tons of money just by collecting sacrificed hair at Indian temples that sell them at a much cheaper starting price to begin with.

But this certainly doesn't stop the average black woman from this weave 'addiction'. Wonder where they get that much money? You guessed it: their boos and unfortunate husbands of course!

What this ultimately comes down to is the pressure on women out there to have Good Hair. Doesn't matter what color skin you have. A woman's crowning glory is her hair.

After watching this documentary I feel I am blessed to be born Muslim. We are not pressured to follow trends and compete with other women out there as to who has the 'best' hair. Rather than spending that much money, covering it all up is much, much better.
