The Noble Qur'an 86:4
"There is no human being but has a protector over him (or her) (i.e. angels in charge of each human being guarding him, writing his good and bad deeds, etc.)"
Angels are made of light.
They do not have desires of their own, neither do they eat or drink.
They are honoured servants of Allah, and never disobey Him.
They are perpetually in service, in prostration, in a standing posture, or through various other forms of worship.
Some of the angels described in the Noble Quran:
- Jibreel: in charge of delivering revelation.
- Mika'il: in charge of bringing the rain.
- Israfil: the blower of the horn on Qiyama.
- Malik-ul-Maut: the Angel of Death who takes people's souls at death.
- The Noble Recorders: those who record people's actions.
- The Protectors (Al-Mu'aqqibat): who keep people from death until its decreed time.
- Ridhwan: in charge of Paradise.
- Malik: in charge of Hell.
- Munkar and Nakir: the questioners in the grave.
- The Carriers of the Throne.
- Those who record the future of the fetus.
- Those who enter the Haram: 70,000 every day.
- Those who move about, descending upon gatherings at which Allah and His Book are mentioned and studied.
- Belief in the angels is an integral part of Iman. [See 2/285 Al-Baqarah]
- Kufr with respect to the angels is kufr. [See 4/136 An-Nisaa]
Contrary to western belief, angels do not take the form of beautiful women or babies with wings.
At the time of the Prophet Lut (peace be upon him) , he was visited by handsome men who were actually angels in disguise.
Jibreel came to Maryam ad took the form of a man, to inform her that she will be the mother of Isa (peace be upon him)
Our prophet, Muhammad s.a.w. was visited by Jibreel in the cave of Hira' to reveal to him the words of Allah, the noble Quran.
As muslims, believing that angels exist is a part of faith. Mere mortals can not see them in their true form. I belive if we are always aware that each of us has a guardian angel to watching over us, we would be more careful of what we do in our daily lives. Will it be good or bad? What are the consequences of doing them?
