A day without Internet and TV

Ever ask yourself what you would do if there was no Internet and no TV at your house?
Pretty tough situation eh? Where would all that time go to instead?
I'd wager that if we did away with both these things, our life would be way more productive, we'd be living more, doing more, moving around a lot more. Practically do everything differently because our lives wouldn't be governed by these 2 things.

The way I see it, you could either let TV and internet control you, or you control them. Technology was meant to make our lives easier. Convenience at a touch of a button. Eliminating hard labour. However, it does has its cons too...The most interesting thing I read recently was to do with social networking sites; they actually make you less social rather than what their namesakes suggest! As in, you'd be sitting there all day, cooped up in your room, on the chair, for hours on end, stalking people on Facebook, leaving comments, liking comments, posting stuff on your wall. But hey, let's get real, whose your number one fan that goes to your page every single day? It's all about us anyway, trying to preen in public. But who the hell gives a damn? Except yourself that is. Even if you have thousands of friends, are they even real? Everything's so virtual and fake.
And at the end of the day, that's 3 hours or probably more that's wasted in a day. In short, social networking sites could be that; keeping in touch with friends and finding long lost ones. Checking up on them once in a while and thats about it. Why'd you spend endless hours doing otherwise? Don't let yourself be sucked into the useless vortex. It's just unhealthy.

Let's talk about TV. I'd sometimes wonder when I do sit on the couch and push that button, how different life would be if we didn't have this idiot box in our lives. We'd be more active for one. Find something productive to do for another. Instead, what do we find ourselves doing? After one show, we flip to another. And then the cycle goes on. That's half a day doing nothing but sit and watch a screen full of moving pictures. The worst thing about it is, we are actually looking at all these actors living their 'lives' while we wither away, packing on the pounds and our brains just shrivel up into nothing. When I think about it, the TV is like something hypnotic. It gets us hypnotized for a few hours. We just can't take our eyes off it. We sit there, face slack, or sometimes laughing. What life is it that we're living? It's like a scene from the living dead.

Technology is good in moderation but too much of it can poison you. The same thing applies to everything else we do in our lives; be it eating, exercising, socializing, and etc. Keeping a nice, healthy balance is key to a fulfilling life. Ask yourself what you want to be, why you're here and where you want to go in life. Carpe Diem!
